DR. RONALD K. DOUGAN, B.Ed., B.D.,
D.Min., R.Psych.
Hi! Let me
tell you a bit more about myself. A graduate of the University of Alberta, I
have been a Chartered Psychologist in the Province of Alberta for many years.
Following a clinical internship in the Texas Medical Center, Houston, I served
for several years as Director of the Pastoral Care Department of the University
of Alberta Hospitals. While there, I regularly conducted classes for medical,
nursing, physiotherapy and theological students.
My interest in career planning and development extends back many years, when,
in the role of Education Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force (Reserve), I
provided service personnel with educational and occupational counselling. For
the past 28 years, I have continued this emphasis on career/life planning by
offering test-based career counselling to thousands of adults and students.
I was a member of a committee that designed a professional doctoral program for
St. Stephen's College, Edmonton. As an Adjunct Professor at that institution, I
had the privilege of supervising doctoral students and serving on doctoral
committees over a period of 20 years.
In the pursuit of my own career goals, my education has taken on an
international flavour: I have graduated from post-secondary institutions in
Houston, Texas, San Francisco, California, and Edmonton, Alberta. These
educational experiences have given me much first-hand experience with the
differences and similarities in the universities in both countries.
I am a member in good standing of the College of Alberta Psychologists, and a
Life Member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta. I have also held
memberships in the Canadian Psychological Association, and the Canadian
Guidance and Counselling Association. My wife, Catherine,
and I are Directors of The Career Institute of Calgary.
